To instill a sense of oneness & sincerity in service amongst officers of the Excise department, & to help the public to ensure better tax compliance.
The day marks the establishment of the Central Excise & Salt Act which was enacted on 24th February 1944.
About Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs(CBIC).
- Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs(CBIC) is the nodal national agency responsible for administering Customs, GST, Central Excise, Service Tax & Narcotics in India.
- A part of the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
- With the enactment of the Finance Act, 2018, the Central Board of Excise & Customs(CBEC) was renamed as Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs(CBIC).
- The change was necessitated due to the enactment of the Goods & Services Tax (GST) which has consolidated the multiple Indirect Taxes into one tax.
